Mijas public holidays and shop opening days (2026 and 2027)

The two local holidays in Mijas come on top of the national and regional ones, and the region sets which Sundays and holidays shops may open.

Why it matters

Offices, schools and many shops close on holidays, and a local holiday that falls on a weekday can close the town hall and cancel an appointment you planned.

When

You are planning errands, appointments or a Sunday shop around a holiday.

How long it takes

Regions publish the next year’s holiday and shop-opening lists in the autumn; check again in the new year.

Steps

1. Check Mijas’s local holidays
Mijas’s two local holidays for 2026 are 8 Sep (Tue) and 15 Oct (Thu), per the annex of the Junta’s resolution of 6 Oct 2025 (BOJA 197, 14 Oct 2025); a later amendment of 20 Apr 2026 (BOJA 79) does not mention Mijas.
2. Add the regional and national holidays
Andalucía 2026 (Decreto 101/2025): 1 Jan (Thu), 6 Jan (Tue), 28 Feb (Sat, Día de Andalucía), 2 Apr (Holy Thursday), 3 Apr (Good Friday), 1 May (Fri), 15 Aug (Sat), 12 Oct (Mon), 2 Nov (Mon), 7 Dec (Mon), 8 Dec (Tue) and 25 Dec (Fri), as the Junta’s calendar page lists them.
3. Know the Sundays and holidays shops may open
The Junta de Andalucía’s horarios comerciales page (Orden de 23 de junio de 2025) lists 16 Sundays and holidays when shops may open in 2026: 4 Jan, 11 Jan, 28 Feb, 2 Apr, 3 May, 5 Jul, 26 Jul, 2 Aug, 15 Aug, 12 Oct, 2 Nov, 29 Nov, 7 Dec, 13 Dec, 20 Dec and 27 Dec. A council may swap up to two of them, and the page also lists shops that set their own hours, such as bakeries, convenience stores and individual shops under 300 m2 that do not belong to large groups.
4. Plan ahead for 2027
For 2027 the Junta’s page lists the regional holidays under Decreto 84/2026 of 29 Apr 2026 and shop-opening days under an Orden of 10 Jun 2026 (3 Jan, 10 Jan, 1 Mar, 25 Mar, 2 May, 4 Jul, 1 Aug, 8 Aug, 16 Aug, 1 Nov, 28 Nov, 6 Dec, 8 Dec, 12 Dec, 19 Dec and 26 Dec). Local holidays for 2027 are not published on the Junta’s page yet.
