Steps

  1. Find the local holidays
The BOC order of 6 August 2025 lists 17 February (Martes de Carnaval) and 4 May (Festividad del Día de la Cruz) for 2026. The BOC order of 7 August 2026 lists 23 February (Martes de Carnaval) and 3 May (Día de la Cruz) for 2027.
  2. Add the regional holidays
The Gobierno de Canarias lists these general holidays for 2026: 1 and 6 January, 2 and 3 April, 1 May, 30 May (Día de Canarias), 15 August, 12 October, 2 November, 8 December and 25 December; Tenerife also has 2 February (Virgen de Candelaria) as an island holiday. The page describing this was published as a draft decree, so confirm in the BOC.
  3. Check when shops may open
The Canary Islands resolution of 18 November 2025 (BOC 239, 2 December 2025) lists these ten Sundays and holidays when shops may open in 2026 on Tenerife: 4 January, 2 April, 30 May, 15 August, 2 November, 29 November, 8 December, and 13, 20 and 27 December.
  4. Plan around closures
Local holidays are paid, non-recoverable days off for workers and count as non-working days for administrative deadlines, so offices may be closed and deadlines can move; check the office’s own page.
