What you need

Steps

  1. In an emergency, call 112
If you are in danger or the crime is happening now, call 112 (Mossos page).
  2. Go to a Mossos d’Esquadra station
In Catalonia the Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police, take denuncias. The Mossos page says you can go to any police station or police office, at any hour, every day of the year. Bring an ID document: DNI, NIE, passport or driving license (Mossos documents page). The Policía Nacional’s Oficina Virtual de Denuncias says that in this province denuncias are not taken through it.
  3. Or book an appointment first (optional)
An appointment is optional and meant to avoid waiting. The Mossos page says it runs from 6:00 to 22:00 and is booked at mossos.gencat.cat/citaprevia; you get an e-mail with date, time and station, and lose the slot after 10 minutes of lateness. It covers theft, robbery, theft from or of a vehicle, fraud, criminal damage, injuries, threats and loss of documents. Do not book for domestic violence, gender-based violence or sexual offenses: go directly to a station.
  4. Or start it online
Some denuncias can be started on the Mossos website (for example thefts, break-ins or lost property). After filing online you must sign a copy at a station within 72 hours and give the reference number. It cannot be used if there was physical violence or if you could identify the offender.
  5. Ask for your copy
See the Spain-wide card (ES-0158) for your right to a copy and language help.
