Urgent care vs ER, 061 and 112 in Catalonia

In Catalonia use 112 for life-threatening emergencies, 061 (CatSalut Respon) for health advice and urgent but non-life-threatening problems, and CAP/CUAP for urgent primary care; hospital ER for serious cases.

Steps

  1. Life-threatening: call 112
    112 is the number for emergencies that need immediate help.
  2. Unsure: call 061
    061 Salut Respon is for health questions and problems that are not an emergency; it can send a doctor to your home or, if needed, an ambulance. 112 and 061 work together.
  3. Urgent but not serious: your CAP or a CUAP
    Go to your own CAP in its opening hours. When it is closed, go to a CUAP or a CAP with continued care: most CUAPs are open 24 hours every day, some only 12 hours. Hospital emergency departments are for the most serious cases.
