Orihuela public holidays and shop opening days (2026 and 2027)

The two local holidays in Orihuela come on top of the national and regional ones, and the region sets which Sundays and holidays shops may open.

Why it matters

Offices, schools and many shops close on holidays, and a local holiday that falls on a weekday can close the town hall and cancel an appointment you planned.

When

You are planning errands, appointments or a Sunday shop around a holiday.

How long it takes

Regions publish the next year’s holiday and shop-opening lists in the autumn; check again in the new year.

Steps

1. Check Orihuela’s local holidays
Orihuela’s two local holidays for 2026 are 17 Jul (Fri, Gloriosa Enseña del Oriol and Fiestas de la Reconquista) and 8 Sep (Tue, Virgen de Monserrate, patron of Orihuela), per the Generalitat’s resolution of 12 Nov 2025 (DOGV 14 Nov 2025).
2. Add the regional and national holidays
Comunitat Valenciana 2026 (Decreto 100/2025, DOGV 7 Jul 2025): 1 Jan (Thu), 6 Jan (Tue), 19 Mar (Thu, San José), 3 Apr (Good Friday), 6 Apr (Easter Monday), 1 May (Fri), 24 Jun (Wed, San Juan), 15 Aug (Sat), 9 Oct (Fri, Day of the Comunitat Valenciana), 12 Oct (Mon), 8 Dec (Tue) and 25 Dec (Fri).
3. Know the Sundays and holidays shops may open
The Conselleria’s resolution of 10 Sep 2025 (DOGV 17 Sep 2025) lets shops in the Comunitat Valenciana open on eleven Sundays and holidays in 2026: 4 Jan, 11 Jan, 3 Apr (Good Friday), 5 Apr (Easter Sunday), 5 Jul, 15 Aug, 12 Oct, 29 Nov, 13 Dec, 20 Dec and 27 Dec. Under Ley 3/2011 other Sundays and holidays count as non-working days for shops, and opening on the listed days is permitted, not required.
4. Plan ahead for 2027
For 2027 the GVA calendar page names Decreto 42/2026 of 20 Mar 2026 (DOGV 2026/8641) as the Valencian 2027 labor calendar, and the Observatorio del Comercio Valenciano has approved a proposed list of eleven shop-opening days that still needs the Conselleria’s resolution; the dates of either list were not checked. Local holidays for 2027 were not found yet.
