Pay your local taxes in Pontevedra: IBI and rubbish fee
Pontevedra’s council collects the IBI itself (the tax office, OTXT). The rubbish fee (lixo) comes every two months with the water bill from Viaqua, the company that runs the water service. The IBI can be split into two direct-debit payments without interest.
- Why it matters
- The rubbish fee isn’t a separate council bill here: it comes with the water bill.
- When
- You bought or own a home in Pontevedra and need to know how and when to pay the IBI and the rubbish fee.
- How long it takes
- Direct debit: two months before the voluntary period.
- Last checked
- 25 Oct 2026
Cost: The pages read state no tax amounts.
What you need
- Direct-debit requests must be in "dous meses antes do comezo do período de recadación voluntaria".
Steps
- Set up direct debit for the IBI
Apply through the council’s electronic office at least two months before the voluntary collection period starts. - Choose two payments if you like
The council "permite o pagamento do IBI de forma fraccionada en dúas cotas e mediante domiciliación bancaria ... sen que lles sexa esixible o pago de xuros". - Expect the rubbish fee with the water bill
It "seralle remitido pola empresa xestora dos servizos de auga e saneamento, Viaqua SA", every two months with the water bill.
