Student Visa and Its Residency Implications (Visado de Estudios)
A national visa for non-EU/EEA foreigners enrolled in a course of study, internship, research, or training program in Spain lasting more than 90 days, which also enables limited part-time work and, under recent reform, an easier path toward switching to a work or other residence status after completion.
- Why it matters
- Relevant to people enrolling in Spanish universities, language schools, or long-term training programs; also relevant to families considering Spain partly because of study opportunities for children or a spouse.
- When
- Acceptance into a qualifying Spanish study, research, internship, or training program lasting more than 90 days.
- How long it takes
- Tied to the length of the study program; renewable for continuing studies. Exact current rules on converting to a work authorization after graduation (a focus of recent reform efforts) were not confirmed.
