Golden Visa (Investor Residence Visa) — Abolished Route, Status and Transition
Spain’s former investor residence visa ('Golden Visa'), created under Article 63 of Ley 14/2013 and historically obtainable via a real-estate investment of at least €500,000 (among other investment options), has been eliminated by the Spanish government. The exact abolition date, governing law/decree, and any grandfathering/transition provisions for pending or prior applications could NOT be confirmed from an official source when we checked and must be verified before being relied upon.
- Why it matters
- Critical for any American who was planning to use real-estate or other investment to obtain Spanish residency: this route is understood to no longer be available for new applicants, so alternative routes (non-lucrative, digital nomad, work, or other Ley 14/2013 categories such as entrepreneur/highly-qualified-professional visas) must be considered instead.
