Public holidays in Spain (2026 and 2027)

Spain has up to 14 paid public holidays a year: national days set each year in a BOE resolution of the Dirección General de Trabajo, some days each region may swap for its own, and up to two local days set for each town.

Why it matters
Offices, many shops and public services close on public holidays, and which days are off depends on where you live, so the national list alone is not your full calendar.
When
Planning appointments, travel or work around the year’s holidays.

Steps

  1. Check the national days
For 2026 the BOE resolution (BOE-A-2025-21667) lists as national holidays that no region replaces: 1 January (Año Nuevo), 3 April (Viernes Santo), 1 May (Fiesta del Trabajo), 15 August (Asunción de la Virgen), 12 October (Fiesta Nacional de España), 8 December (Inmaculada Concepción) and 25 December (Natividad del Señor). 6 January (Epifanía del Señor) is also a holiday in every region in 2026.
  2. Check 2027
For 2027 the BOE resolution (BOE-A-2026-21254, published 13 October 2026) lists as national holidays no region replaces: 1 January, 26 March (Viernes Santo), 1 May, 12 October, 1 November, 6 December, 8 December and 25 December. 6 January is a holiday in every region in 2027; other days such as 25 March (Jueves Santo), 19 March and Monday 16 August are holidays only in the regions marked in the table.
  3. Check your region’s column
Each region can replace some national days with its own holidays. The BOE resolution has a table with one column per region; read your region’s column for the full regional list.
  4. Add your town’s two local days
Each town has up to two local holidays. They are not in the BOE resolution; they are published in your region’s official bulletin or the provincial bulletin. Your town hall also publishes them.
