Bring your household belongings to Spain without import tax when you move your residence
When you move your normal residence to Spain from a country outside the EU, the Tax Agency’s customs rules allow your personal and household goods to enter without customs duty and VAT (IVA), if the page’s conditions are met. You ask for it in the import declaration itself (the DUA); there is no separate application.
- Why it matters
- Anyone shipping furniture, belongings or a vehicle from the US, the UK or another non-EU country can check the official conditions and time limits before the goods travel, so nothing is taxed that did not need to be.

- You are planning to ship or bring your belongings to Spain after living outside the EU.
- How long it takes
- Import within 12 months after you establish your residence in the EU customs territory (6 months to settle if goods are released before the move, with a guarantee).

The goods must have been yours "durante al menos 6 meses antes del traslado", and you must have lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months before the move.
