How hiring a repair person or installer works in Spain: quotes, invoices and checking an installer

For repairs to household appliances, Spanish law gives you a written quote before the work, an invoice and a guarantee. For electricity, gas or heating work, official registers of authorized installer companies can be searched online. Complaints start with a stamped complaint form (hoja de reclamaciones).

Why it matters
A newcomer who doesn’t know the local trades can still check an installer on an official register, ask for the papers the rules call for and know where to complain if something goes wrong.
When
Something in your home needs repairing or installing: an appliance, electricity, gas, heating or hot water.
