Sell your car: tell the DGT with a notificación de venta
After you sell a car, the seller files a notificación de venta with the DGT so that fines and other notices stop coming to you. It takes effect the day you file, not the day you sign the contract, and the DGT recommends filing as soon as possible.
- Why it matters
- Selling a car is the same everywhere, but in Spain the vehicle stays registered in your name until a transfer or a sale notice reaches the DGT, so fines can keep arriving.
- When
- You have sold or are about to sell a car registered in Spain.
- How long it takes
- File as soon as possible; it takes effect the day you file. The buyer has 30 days after signing to transfer the car. The DGT gives no fixed time for handling requests filed through the registry.
