Shop opening on Sundays and holidays in the Basque Country

In the Basque Country, large shops (over 400 m2 of sales area) may open on at most eight Sundays and holidays a year, and each shop chooses which ones. Small shops, bakeries, newsstands, florists, fuel stations and convenience shops are not limited in the same way.

Why it matters

Most big supermarkets are closed on Sundays and holidays, so you need to know that the days vary by shop and where small shops still serve you.
