Get home internet (fiber contract, permanence and your rights)
Home internet in Spain is normally a fiber (or cable) contract with a telecom operator, often bundled with mobile lines, which may include a minimum-commitment (permanencia) clause; users have defined rights on cancellation, price rises and complaints handled by the OAUT.
- Why it matters
- Many newcomers work or study remotely and need a line quickly, but a contract with a permanence clause or installation promotions can be costly to leave. Knowing your rights helps you choose and exit contracts.
- When
- You have moved into a home and need a fixed internet line, or you are being offered a bundle (fiber + mobile + TV) by phone or at a shop.
- How long it takes
- Telefónica (universal service provider): maximum 60 days to activate service; other operators: as stated in contract (OAUT). Complaint to the operator: wait up to one month before OAUT.
