Check housing aid you may qualify for in Gijón and Asturias
Gijón’s housing company EMVISA and the Principality of Asturias run several rent-support and affordable-housing programs (municipal rent aid, student shared-housing aid, Comparte Joven, the public-housing register, and the regional Alquilámoste program); each has its own income, residence and tax-compliance rules, and none is an automatic entitlement.
- Why it matters
- Rent is usually a newcomer’s biggest cost. Some programs are open all year, one student aid is open right now (until 16 October 2026), and most require a minimum time on the Gijón padrón or proof of being up to date with tax and Social Security, so it helps to know early which ones could apply.
- When
- You are renting or about to rent in Gijón and want to know whether a public aid program or an affordable-rent scheme could apply to you or your household.
- How long it takes
- Alquilámoste applications have a stated resolution time of 6 months; municipal rent aid is granted for 6-12 months at a time (EMVISA / miPrincipado).
