Get a library card for Gijón’s public libraries

Borrowing from the Red Municipal de Bibliotecas de Gijón needs either the council’s Tarjeta Ciudadana or the Principado de Asturias reader card (carné de lector).

Why it matters

Libraries offer free loans, Wi-Fi and children’s activities; the Tarjeta Ciudadana you may already have for other services doubles as a library card.

When

You want to borrow books, DVDs or other materials.

Cost: No fee found for loans.

What you need

• Tarjeta Ciudadana del Ayuntamiento de Gijón or carné de lector del Principado de Asturias (council loan-service sheet via papelea.com, secondary).
• Loans: up to 15 days, renewable for 15 more if not reserved; limits up to 10 books, 6 magazines, 6 discs, 6 videos or 6 CD-ROMs (same sheet).
• Per Gijón’s official Tarjeta Ciudadana leaflet, libraries are a built-in benefit of the Tarjeta Ciudadana. Secondary source (papelea.com mirroring gijon.es procedure): lending needs either the Tarjeta Ciudadana or an Asturias reader card.

Steps

1. Get a card
Obtain the Tarjeta Ciudadana (GLIFE-0009) or an Asturias reader card.
2. Visit a branch
Use the branch of your choice; the 11 municipal libraries lend with the Tarjeta Ciudadana (2021 guide).
3. Use digital services
The 2021 guide mentions eBiblio (e-books/magazines) and eFilm (streaming); confirm current availability.
