Use pharmacies and find the farmacia de guardia
Pharmacies (farmacias) dispense prescribed and over-the-counter medicines, and a rota of pharmacies on duty (farmacias de guardia) covers nights, weekends and holidays.
- Why it matters
- You need to know where to buy medicine out of hours and that many medicines need a Spanish prescription.
- When
- You need medication or health advice and your regular pharmacy is closed.
- Last checked
- 6 Oct 2026
Cost: Medicine prices not covered here. Under the convenio especial, medicines are paid 100% by the patient (Ministry of Health convenio page).
What you need
- Prescription medicines need a valid prescription (see GLIFE-0066 for foreign prescriptions).
Steps
- Find a duty pharmacy
The Consejo General de Colegios Farmacéuticos runs a national 'Farmacias de guardia' search with an Asturias section (farmaceuticos.com/farmacias-de-guardia/asturias/). The Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Asturias has its own page on the same site. The page could not be checked, so how the local rota is presented is unverified. no Colegio de Asturias-specific app/URL could be confirmed. Not all of this is confirmed on an official page yet; check with the office or the linked source. - Look for the duty list on pharmacy doors
Not verified in sources; ask a local pharmacy. - Bring your prescription or health card
For public-system prescriptions, ask about electronic prescription (receta electrónica) with your health card (GLIFE-0005).
Official sources
- Farmacias de guardia en Asturias
- Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Asturias
- Convenio especial (medicines 100% patient-paid)
Do these first
- Obtain the Asturias public health card (tarjeta sanitaria)
- Know urgent care vs the ER (and when to call 112)
See this in your plan. Your steps in order, for your passport and visa.
