Register for Cl@ve (electronic ID for government services)
Cl@ve is the Spanish state’s shared login system for online government services (Agencia Tributaria, Social Security, DGT, many others); foreigners with a NIE can register online with an invitation letter or electronic certificate, or in person at a registration office.
- Why it matters
- With Cl@ve you can do tax, Social Security and many other procedures from your phone or computer instead of queuing, and some processes (such as booking appointments or filing taxes) are much easier with it.
- When
- You have a NIE and want to deal with Spanish public administrations online.
- How long it takes
- Invitation-letter route: the mailed letter’s code is valid 60 days (AEAT); delivery time is not stated. In-person registration: immediate once the appointment is attended (no stated delay).
