Social security agreements between Spain and other countries
Spain has bilateral social security agreements with a set list of countries, plus the Ibero-American Multilateral Convention. Such agreements coordinate the two systems: they decide which country you pay into when posted temporarily, and let contribution periods from both countries count toward pensions. Each agreement has its own terms.
- Why it matters
- If you worked in a country with an agreement, those years may help you qualify for a Spanish pension or keep a pension from home; if your employer posts you to Spain you may stay in your home system for a time.
- When
- You have worked, or will keep working, in a country other than Spain and want to know how it affects contributions or pensions.
