Apply for Spanish nationality by residence online
Nationality by residence is requested through the Ministry of Justice’s electronic procedure, with identification and electronic signature, the required documents and the paid fee.
- Why it matters
- This is the filing step of the nationality path. The file number from the filing lets the applicant follow the case and watch the regulation’s deadlines.
- When
- You meet the residence period and have the integration documents.
- How long it takes
- Resolution within one year of the application entering the Dirección General; without an express decision it is treated as denied by silence (Real Decreto 1004/2015, art. 11.3).

A request to fix defects gives three months from notification; without a reply the applicant is treated as having withdrawn and the file is closed (Orden JUS/1625/2016, art. 7.3).
