Moving to a new home in Spain: who to tell
After a move you update your address with several bodies: the padrón at your town hall, the Police if you hold a TIE or EU registration certificate, the Tax Agency, the DGT, and the Social Security. Each has its own page, channel and time limit.
- Why it matters
- Letters and notices (tax, traffic fines, residence renewals) go to the address on file. Updating it avoids missed notifications.
- When
- You are moving to a new address, in the same town or a different one.
- How long it takes
- DGT: 15 days. Tax Agency: three months (unless the Renta deadline falls inside). Police and Social Security: not stated on the pages read.
- Official page
- Resolución de 17 de febrero de 2020: instrucciones técnicas sobre la gestión del Padrón municipal
- Last checked

Registering in a new town means automatic deregistration from any other padrón entry; a move inside the same town is handled as a modification of your entry.
