Environmental labels (etiqueta ambiental) and low-emission zones
The DGT gives every vehicle an environmental class (0 emisiones, ECO, C, B, or none). Cities use these classes to decide who may enter their zona de bajas emisiones (ZBE). This card explains the labels, how to check yours and what a ZBE is in general; each city’s rules are separate.
- Why it matters
- A car’s class decides access to many city centers, and the class is not always what you would guess from the car’s age or fuel. Checking it by plate is free.
- When
- You own or plan to buy a car and will drive in or near a Spanish city.

One Easy to miss, on us
The DGT says the sticker is voluntary, but without it visible enforcement agents cannot see your class, so you may not get the benefits of it.
