Buy and register a used car (transfer, taxes, ITV)
Buying a second-hand car in Spain means checking the DGT vehicle report, signing a purchase contract, paying the regional transfer tax (Modelo 620/621), and transferring ownership at the DGT within 30 days (tasa 1.5: €55.70); the car also needs valid ITV, mandatory insurance and annual municipal vehicle tax.
- Why it matters
- If you want your own car in Spain, you must handle the DGT transfer yourself (or via a gestoría), and foreign buyers need an NIE.
- When
- You decide to buy a car in Spain.
- How long it takes
