Set up your water supply with EMA (alta or cambio de titularidad)
Water and sewerage in Gijón are supplied by the municipal company EMA; you either open a new water contract (alta) for a dwelling or take over an existing one (cambio de titularidad) by showing a document that gives you the right to occupy the property and paying a refundable deposit (fianza).
- Why it matters
- Whoever lives in the property needs a water account in their name; knowing which EMA procedure applies, what to bring and how the deposit works avoids delays and unexpected bills.
- When
- You move into a flat or house in Gijón and need water service in your name (new supply, restoration of a previous service, or taking over from the previous account holder), or you leave and want to close it.
