Lost or stolen passport, documents or wallet: who to tell and what to replace
If documents or cards are lost or stolen, you can report it to the police (denuncia), ask your bank to block cards at once, replace a Spanish driving license through the DGT, and ask the Police for a duplicate of a TIE. A new passport comes from your own country’s embassy or consulate in Spain.

- Losing a passport or TIE affects travel, banking and official appointments. Knowing which body replaces which document saves time.

- How long it takes
- DGT provisional permit valid 6 months; the final license arrives about a month and a half after the request, per the DGT sede. Other timelines are not stated.

The Police sede’s page on the return authorization says the holder of a valid TIE can request it after theft or loss only if they can show they have filed the duplicate request, and that the procedure is carried out in person.
