Read your utility bills and understand your comunidad de propietarios
Spanish electricity and gas bills split into fixed and variable parts plus regulated charges and taxes, while the building you live in is run by a comunidad de propietarios under the Ley de Propiedad Horizontal, which sets community fees and house rules.
- Why it matters
- Bills arrive in Spanish with many technical lines, and as a tenant you may be asked to pay community fees or follow building rules you never saw. Knowing the basics helps you spot errors and know who to ask.
- When
- You receive your first electricity, gas or water bill, or you move into a building with a comunidad de propietarios (most flats in Spain).
- How long it takes
- Companies must respond to complaints within 15 business days (CNMC electricity page).
